About the Team

The Product Developer Tooling organization develops software and tools to support all of Workday Application Development and Testing and is extremely passionate about improving developer productivity.As a Software Engineer in our Tooling organization, you will be at the foundation of Workday’s technology, building software that empowers engineering teams to rapidly develop, test and deliver high quality products. Our team currently serves the almost 3,000 strong Workday development community by providing scalable development and testing tools that are vital to support an efficient continuous delivery platform. We have a work environment that is not driven by external product launches, but instead by the needs of our own development community, which allows us to focus on producing well thought-out solutions that enhance our development environment, automated testing and delivery pipeline.About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Cloud Engineer to join our Product Development Tools team. In this role, you will be the dedicated cloud expert responsible for the design, deployment, and management of our cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with our development teams to provide the scalable, secure, and performant cloud environment necessary for building and running our internal tools. You will have a direct impact on our ability to innovate and deliver, ensuring our infrastructure is reliable, cost-effective, and aligned with our strategic goals.
About You
You are a hands-on cloud engineer with a strong passion for automation and infrastructure-as-code. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoy solving complex infrastructure challenges. You are an excellent collaborator, able to work effectively with developers to understand their needs and provide them with the right tools and environments to succeed. You take ownership of your work, from initial design to ongoing maintenance, and are committed to building robust and secure cloud solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of professional experience in a Cloud Engineer role with hands-on experience with either Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
Strong understanding of networking principles, including VPCs, subnets, routing, and security groups.
Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and management of cloud resources.
Strong command of application performance monitoring (APM) and log aggregation solutions and proficiency in issue tracking tools, such as Jira to facilitate efficient development and operations workflows.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and integrating infrastructure provisioning into the development workflow.
BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical field
Other Qualifications (Preferred):
Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
A strong passion for developer productivity and a proactive approach to improving internal tooling.
Good code review skills and capacity to both provide and act on constructive feedback.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
