We are looking for a Community/Program Manager to join our team to help us in building support for the LatinX in AI (LXAI) community by managing our community programs and attracting new members and donors to further our mission, values, and goals in creating opportunity for LatinX in AI. Our community/program manager is a strong voice for our organization and they should have a passion for artificial intelligence technology and increasing representation of LatinX engineers and researchers in the global AI landscape.

The LatinX in AI programs is supported by the Accel AI Institute 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide education in artificial intelligence theory and engineering. To accomplish this, we focus on integrating AI and social impact through research, consulting, and workshops, on ethical AI development and applied AI engineering. Our target audience includes underrepresented groups (women, people of color, LGBTQ, etc), tech companies (including startups and large corporations), governments, and educating individuals experiencing job loss due to automation. We work with students, professionals, and companies around the world.


Tenants:

  • Improve access to education and resources in AI
  • Improve awareness of the long and short-term effects of artificial intelligence
  • Increase communication between companies and underrepresented engineers and researchers
  • Ensure transparency and accuracy of underrepresented culture and voice in data representations for the development of AI
The ideal candidate must have experience managing a team and be able to respond and adapt to a rapid-paced environment. They will be extremely organized while balancing multiple promotions of our current program campaigns. The program manager will also support the day-to-day operations of the programs with administrative responsibilities. Record keeping and maintenance of accurate records is an important part of working for a non-profit. Candidates will also be supporting the CEO and Executive Board to assist in relationship-building, fundraising, and executing programs that help raise money and exposure for the organization and its beneficiaries.

Promotion of our programs includes in-person promotion at events including research workshops, tutorials, and conferences, as well as virtually through content creation and sharing using external scheduling sites while employing a creative approach to communications with new ways to connect to our existing and potential supporters. The candidate must be analytical to notice trends in community engagement to determine what works best for our chosen platforms such as Facebook (Meta), Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

To be successful in this role, candidates will need to have prior experience in both program management and team management. The position will be reporting to the CEO of Accel AI Institute.


Specific responsibilities include:
  • Experience with program development and management, strategic operations, strategy consulting, and/or data-driven diversity programs
  • Communicate LatinX in AI priorities and procedures to the program teams, workshop chairs, volunteers, members, beneficiaries, and grant-seekers.
  • Respond to goal- and priority-related inquiries from constituents and the general public.
  • Represent LatinX in AI at relevant conferences, meetings, and briefings.
  • Facilitate conversations between LatinX in AI and affiliates.
  • Identify opportunities to spotlight beneficiaries' and grantees’ work.
  • Identify and recommend partnerships that advance the strategies of LatinX in AI programs.
  • Experience cultivating communities in digital spaces, leading proactive and reactive communications through tools at scale
  • Experience with program development and establishing operational processes
  • Experience in working with social justice organizations or in diversity/inclusion
  • Review and analyze program outcomes, grant proposals, distributions, budgets, and financial documents to determine strategy alignment, organizational capacity, and effectiveness.
  • Perform programmatic and financial due diligence for programs and grant payment management.
  • Prepare and present cogent analytical recommendations for programs.
  • Monitor the performance of active grants within assigned grantees.
  • Contribute to reports that communicate the alignment of programs and grantee activities with program goals and strategies, including grant recommendations, analyses, and other documents.
  • Maintain and build content expertise by staying abreast of current research, data, and trends in the artificial intelligence field, and innovation in Latin America, and by attending and participating in relevant events, workshops, and conferences.
  • Other affiliated assignments as needed.

About You:
  • BA degree required, a Master's degree preferred.
  • A desire to increase diversity and inclusion in technology, specifically supporting our programs for LatinX-identified researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs in the US and Latin America.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) Professional Fluency preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in project development, nonprofit management, community organizing, fundraising, philanthropy, or strategy development.
  • Strong project management skills, including organization and attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of the Artificial Intelligence space and the philanthropic, public, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Current knowledge of developments in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors and the Artificial Intelligence field.
  • Strategic, critical, and creative thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into a coherent vision, strategy, and plan.
  • Financial literacy to understand budgets and financial statements.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties: must work well under pressure, balance multiple and competing demands, complete work accurately under deadlines, and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a strong customer service orientation, and a desire to work in a collegial, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent analytical, research, reasoning, problem‐solving, and decision‐making abilities.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills, including solid presentation abilities.
